Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eire Ifueko Alufohai Esq.; Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Christopher Nehikhare, and the Director, Edo State Fire Service, Omoluru Osayande, at handing over of a fire service truck to the state government by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), at the Government House in Benin City, on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, took delivery of an additional ultra-modern industrial-sized fire truck from the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) to boost the state’s response to fire emergencies.

The governor, who spoke to journalists after test-driving the truck, at the Government House in Benin City, said the state government is committed to reviving and strengthening its fire service.


He said the state has recruited and is training more firemen with the support of the Federal Fire Service to enhance their capacity for first responder services.

Obaseki noted, “Today, we have received an ultra-modern fire truck donated by the NPDC. We have ordered two fire trucks of our own, which will be delivered before the end of March 2022. With these three fire trucks, we will have enough equipment of our own to fight fire, no matter the scale.

“More importantly, we are re-training our firemen and NPDC has gladly accepted to provide additional training aside from the provision of a fire truck. We have 38 men in service and will make sure that we send them on advanced fire-fighting training.


“Our focus is to get the Federal Fire Service to join and support the state’s efforts in enlightenment and advocacy to prepare the citizens to join in response in case of any fire incident.”

Edo state fire service gets new F-320 fire rescue trucks



BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has presented 50 patrol vehicles and 60 motorbikes to security agencies to further strengthen the capacity of security operatives to tackle crime and criminality in the state.

Obaseki handed over the vehicles to the security operatives shortly after the monthly Security Council Meeting at the state’s Command and Control Centre in Benin City.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his government is pursuing a holistic upgrade of the state’s security architecture to guarantee the safety and security of persons and investments in the state, ensuring a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Obaseki, while addressing journalists in Benin City, said the government is “prioritizing public safety and security with the war against land-grabbing and deepening the reach of the Edo State Security Network for better community policing and intelligence gathering.”

According to him, “These programmes are key to unlocking more economic growth, as we understand the need for a secure environment to drive tourism and other aspects of our economic transformation drive. We have made provision for training and purchase of more security equipment to support our security services.”

Reassuring the protection of lives and property of citizens of Edo State, Obaseki further stated, “We understand that the investments being made in Edo today would benefit from improvement in public safety and security. This is why we invested heavily in improving the state’s security system with the establishment of the Edo State Command and Control Centre. The centre is fitted with state-of-the-art security equipment to assist security personnel in curbing crime and criminality in the state.”

He added, “We have extended copious support to federal government security agencies in the state with the provision of operational bases and purchase of equipment, including Armoured Personal Carriers (APC), speedboats and gunboats, among others.
